"The lowest point of India stands as the tallest of the Andamans"
"The southernmost tip or famously called as - the Last Land Of India is a spectacular lighthouse located in the Andaman and Nicobar group of Islands which most Indians are unaware of, located in the Great Nicobar Island. Magnificent view right!"
Many tend to take Kanyakumari as the southernmost point of our country which is misleading fact as this tiny Island with small yet diverse population grabs the title.
History
It was back in the 1970's few years after our country got independence from the British rule and settlement of Ex-sevicemen from all states of country took place in these Islands. The construction began around at that time and on 10 Oct 1985 official reopening ceremony took place. This was named after our former Prime minister Indira Gandhi.
During Tsunami in 2004 this lighthouse subsided 4.25 meters into the ocean and the eathquake killed as many as 16 to 20 families living around it along with 4 scientists who came there for reseach.
Present scenario
For so many years after deadly tsunami except through helicopters the road way of transport was not possible as the roadways connecting this lighthouse and Great Nicobar were completely destroyed.
Now this magnificent island with lot of tourist influx is easy to go now (2023) than then as the road connectivity construction is nearly completed and is at 52 km from Campbellbay (Great Nicobar Island).

Peculiarity of these Islands
In contrast of other famous island destination this Island is unique with respect to it's people, as people from all languages, culture, ethics live together in unity, wonderful beaches, lots of endemic animals, plants and mindblowing spectacular biodiversity. Most of all this tiny phenomenal island is located to South east of our India in the Bay of Bengal of the Indian Ocean.
Thank you 😊
